New Online Store for Quality Plush Stuffed Animals

Fragile Earth Stuffed Animals (www.feplush.com) is an online retail store specializing in plush stuffed animals, gund stuffed animals and jellycat stuffed animals. Owners, sisters Helen & Mary Beth, are self-proclaimed stuffed animals aficionados, who started Fragile Earth Stuffed Animals to share the items we love with the world.

Carrying plush characters from MerryMakers, Yottoy, and Crocodile Creek allows us to indulge in our love and awe of children's literature. We found the representatives from Jellycat by accident one day at a trade show and fell for the London based company's products immediately. We even adopted one of their animals, the Pudding Hedgehog, Rupert, as the face of our company. That same day, we discovered Unipak which has many wonderful styles of plush stuffed animals (Plumpees, Ooleys, Fairy Bears). Gund is the latest product line we've added and we are thrilled to introduce some of the bears we keep very near & dear to our hearts (Schlepp, I'm talking to you!) and Gund's wonderful line of Sesame Street plush stuffed animals.

Does anyone know where I can find an online, free pattern for a sewing stuffed fox/dog/cat?

I'm going to try and sew a stuffed fox, and I'd like it to be flat/laying down/2d-ish. I have a pattern for the head, though I'm not sure how to go about the body. It's going to be a fox, but a dog or cat body would work fine. ... Not sure if I categorized this right.

Top Five Factors in Deciding on Stuffed Animals For a Child

It isn't always simple to decide on the right plush toy for a child. It's tough to know exactly what they would most appreciate, since we were children in a time when most cell phones didn't have a qwerty keyboard. It's even tougher if we don't have children of our own, given the lack of information and the large selection of plush toys available. Most toy specialty stores lack knowledgeable staff and the toy itself has only the vaguest guidelines on the label, usually only the cleaning information and the general target age for which the toy is considered safe. Sometimes we wind up buying the so-called "must have" toy of the year because we have heard so much about it in the media or in advertisements, or because the sales person suggests it because it is a big seller. But how do we know that this "must have" toy is the right one for the specific child for whom we are shopping?

Here are five guidelines that can help you to decide which plush animal is the best choice for your gift. Hopefully, this will make the experience of choosing a gift for any child a lot easier.

1) Safety

Your most important consideration when choosing any plush animal should be safety. This is especially important for infants and young children. If the child is under the age of three, then you should avoid any toy with sharp edges, small parts, or pieces that might come loose with use. Make sure that the eyes, nose, tail, or other sewn-on attachments can't fall off and cause the child to choke on them.

2) Age

The age of the child can help you decide whether to just go with your instincts or to seek more information. If the gift is for a young child, then any type of stuffed animal is equally good, as long as you follow the other guidelines concerning quality, etc. A toddler will probably like any plush toy, so long as it is soft and cuddly. For older kids, it is best to ask their parents what type of animals that the child likes. For example, some kids might like magic and fantasy, so a stuffed dragon or unicorn would be best. If they like jungle animals, then a stuffed lion or elephant might work better. It usually pays to do more research by asking one of their close relatives their tastes if the child is past the toddler stage.

3) Gender

The gender of the child is an important consideration in choosing your gift. Girls tend to like cute, cuddly, and colorful toys. Teddy bears, chipmunks, cats, and dogs are all good stuffed animals for girls. Boys tend to prefer more dangerous animals such as stuffed lions, sharks, dinosaurs, or even a big, fierce grizzly bear.

4) Quality

This is similar to factor number one. You should never, ever sacrifice quality for price. There are plenty of high quality stuffed animals which are reasonably priced. If a toy is not of good quality, then it could be a safety hazard. If parts of it just fall off, then a child could easily choke on them, as mentioned above. Not only can this be a safety hazard, but any child would be disappointed and sad if their plush buddy just fell apart! A good plush gift should be well-stitched and durable enough to withstand rough playing.

5) Purpose

Stuffed animals can serve many different purposes. They can be a comforting buddy to take to bed with you or have an educational value. If they are having a rough time with school, friends, or family, get them a good friend like a sweet teddy bear or stuffed pet type animal such as a plush cat or stuffed dog. These types of toys can be very comforting. Plush toys can also stimulate a child's curiosity about the natural world. If your gift recipient is interested in zoos and nature, go with a stuffed giraffe or elephant. If you can combine the function of the gift with their personality, then your present is sure to be a winner.

Keep these five guidelines in mind the next time that you have to choose a gift for a child. Don't just grab the first thing that you see or settle for the current "must have" toy. Consider the child's age and gender and then look at the safety, quality and function of the gift you are choosing. You can make any child happy if you follow these simple guidelines to gift-giving.

what is the stuffed cat with kittens inside called?

As a child, I had a cat with kittens that went inside it's velcro stomach. What brand is this/ where can I find it?

It was called Kitty Surprise. They also had Puppy Surprise (a dog) and Pony Surprise (a horse). They were very popular in the 1990's. You can still find the original 90's ones on E-bay, they were far cuter than the "remakes" of the popular toy. Both the original and the "remakes" were manufactured by Hasbro. You can tell an original vs remake by looking for the larger head (almost reminiscent of Bratz dolls big heads) on the remakes.

Why is my cat acting so strange?

We found our cat Mischa as a stray. we think she might have been abandoned. She's calm, quite affectionate and she's nice to have around, but we're starting to get a little worried about how serious she is. She never plays with anything! not even toys that are furry or filled with catnip! She's only young, so i highly doubt it's her age that makes her so 'un playful'. also, she doesn't have any interest in exploring or climbing. she spends her time sleeping and being petted. Is this normal cat behavior?!

Have you had her long enough for her to catch up nutritionally from having been on her own? If she is still recovering from malnurishment and deprivation from having been abandoned, she may not have the strength and energy yet. There is also the possibility that she may have parasites (worms) preventing her from getting all the nutrition and energy she needs from the food you give her. Or perhaps she is still mentally recovering and destressing. Or perhaps this is just her personality.

Have you had the chance to get her to the veterinarian since you took her in to your home? If not, it might be useful to ask the vet. about it.

Stuffed Animals - the Difference Between a Gift and an Amusement Park Toy

With the cold winter season coming up we’re all bound to miss the warm days of summer. No longer will we be able to do anything or go anywhere just be slipping on a pair of sandals. When we brave the cold, we’ll have to bundle up in our coats, scarves, mittens, hats, and boots. Things are much more difficult. Not to mention there are a lot of places we just plain can’t go during the winter, like beaches and amusement parks.

In fact, amusement parks are a big part of the summer experience, and they are lots of fun. Some people are thrill seekers, and are there for the rides. They are happy waiting in lines all day for the big roller coaster. Others are there for the boardwalk and the games contained within. Those people are easy to spot, dragging around giant stuffed animals as their prizes. You know that there is no way they are able to take those massive prizes along on the rides, and they certainly won’t fit in any locker available at the park. To them, the prizes, and the road to the prize, are much more fun than any roller coaster.

This is probably something you consider when getting some plush toys as Christmas gifts for family and friends. After all, some of these people probably already have big collections of stuffed animals from their amusement park prizes. What’s the difference between an amusement park plush toy, and one that you can give as a gift? You’ll be surprised to hear that the difference is quite substantial, with the gift being the far nicer stuffed animal.

Here’s one example. The piles of stuffed animals you bring home end up stacked up in a closet somewhere, out of sight and out of mind. However, a stuffed toy that was a gift has much more meaning. It reminds us of the occasion when we received it, and the person who gave it to us. It’s a memory. We don’t put these plush toys in a closet somewhere to collect dust, because they are meaningful.

It’s also true that most stuffed animals from amusement parks are not high quality. After all, the people who run the games are trying to cut costs wherever they can! In fact, these plush animals are often very cheap looking, almost goofily so. But stuffed animals that are given as a gift, or even ones that we buy ourselves, are of much higher quality. They’re soft and fluffy and expertly made from higher quality materials, and they are more realistic. For example, take this story. I once won a plush cat at a carnival. I love cats, but was very disappointed once I got it. The stitching was loose, and by the time we got to the car the cat was already losing its shape. I fared much better with the stuffed cat my sister gave me that Christmas. It was of much higher quality, and very natural appearing, and I still have it to this day.

Plush toys are always good, but there is definitely a difference in quality available. Plus, stuffed animals given as gifts have a great deal more meaning than anything that you could win. It’s like the difference between giving a gift card and taking someone out yourself. Taking them out for a nice dinner and paying for it has so much more meaning than just sending them out by themselves. This way they will always remember the time they spent with you.

So remember, even if you know that someone already has a lot of stuffed animals, know that there is no such thing as too many plush toys. After all, they don’t have one from you!
