Hunters can be very picky about the pets they choose. If you've gotten your hands on our hunters guide we give you a full run-down of the best and not-so-good choices when it comes to actual pet abilities. Now some people may very well like pets that are not as effective statistically, and that's fine. You should use what you like, but when you look at the numbers, there are simply some pets which really shine in certain areas.

Most hunters will use a cat. Cats are one of only two pets which get a 10% bonus to damage. Cats are also easy to feed and learn a most of the best pet skills. You can't really go wrong with a cat, especially if you are a Beast Mastery specialization hunter. A cat will do more damage than any other pet you can have - except one.

We want to put up for your consideration the Ravager. Before the Burning Crusade expansion, cats ruled DPS, but now they have a serious rival. Ravagers look cool and have the potential to do more damage than cats. Possibly the only drawback to a Ravager instead of a cat is that they don't get the prowl skill, but that may not be a big deal to you - especially on a PVE server.

Why are Ravagers at the top of the DPS pile? They get to use the really wicked ability Gore. Gore is an instant cast ability that uses 15 focus, and works a lot like claw (which we prefer over bite - check out our hunter guide for all the details). Even though Gore does similar base damage to claw, it has a 50% chance to do DOUBLE damage. When you average that out, it means that Gore will do 125 damage in the same amount of time as claw will do 100. When you stack the 50% chance at double damage with beast mastery hunter skills like frenzy for the critical hit bonuses, it can get seriously high.

Ravagers have a little more armor than cats, but lower health. They only eat meat and raw meat, and can learn Bite, cower, Growl, Dash, and Gore. Gore is a great skill only used by boars and ravagers. Unfortunately, for Horde players, a ravager can be a real challenge to tame before level 62 especially on PVP servers. The other problem with gore is that there are no known mobs from which to learn gore 5 or 6. So you're stuck with Gore 4 until you get to blasted lands at level 48. Also Gore 3 is only learned from the named mob Bellygrub in Redridge Mountains; and he can be a load to handle at level 24. Overall, gore is the best offensive pet skill to have, but for horde characters, you might not want to consider a ravager until you get to outlands. Even for alliance, for 20-40 levels, your main pet attack skill is going to be way off the pace. Boosting stamina through pet training is also more expensive as far as training points than boosting armor. So we normally give pets with more stamina a better score than pets with higher armor stats.

All of that being said - it could be argued that ravagers have the ability to deal more damage than any other pet in the game. If you can be a little patient and wait for one until outlands, you might consider one if you go Beast Master. To save focus and use the really wicked DPS skill, gore, teach this guy Gore, Growl and Dash. Gore is instant cast with no cooldown, so if he gets a few double damage hits in a row, it can really be a killer. We're not sure if giving up prowl is worth the added dps and extra points spent on stamina, but on PVE servers it may be a winner.

Basically, my neighborhood has a problem with airgun snipers.

...at cats, birds and squirrels. I believe the velocity they are fired at is below 1250 Feet per second. Basically it only takes a velocity of 400 FPS to penetrate Cat Skin but, if the cat is wounded, it lingers and dies.
Voelocities upwards of 600 FPS are required to penetrate the skull of a cat in the event of a head shot, so that is why i'm looking for the kevlar lined knit cap too.

Where can I find these things?
It bothers me that my cat will be going out the house with more armor than your typical US SOLDIER.

Common Conditions That Irritate the Eyes and What to Do About Them

No matter how much careful you are with your eyes, there will still be instances when you will suffer from common eye problems. Dust, allergens, microorganisms, and small objects can find their way to your eyes and cause them to swell, itch and even turn red.

There are a lot of reasons why people's eyes turn red and irritated. Inflammation, infection, allergy, trauma, foreign objects and even broken vessels can all make your eyes red and itchy or even painful. However, if the white portion of your beautiful orbs, which is called sclera, is pink or red, then you might be suffering from one of the following common eye conditions. So better watch out.

Eye Allergies

Pollen, fumes, and cat dander are some of the allergens that can make your eyes red, itchy and a bit irritated. Sometimes, allergies can also be triggered by the changing seasons. You will know you are suffering from an allergy if your eyes, aside from being red, are swollen and watery. Your risk of getting eye allergy can increase depending on the time of the year or the type of plants that are abundant in your area. In some cases, allergens like molds, mites and dust can also be available all year round.

In order to minimize the swelling and redness, you can use a cold compress on your eyelids. If this does not help, taking anti-allergy medication is also a good idea. However, before you take any pills, you better know its side effects.

Pink Eye

Conjunctivitis, more commonly known as pink eye, is a condition that is more common in children than adults. This is a type of eye infection that easily spreads due to viral or bacterial infection. But pink eye can also be caused by allergies. If what you have is an allergic reaction, you can be sure that it is not contagious. The symptoms of conjunctivitis include swelling, itching or burning, and watering. To know what causes your conjunctivitis, you need to go to a doctor. They will know the best way for you or your child to remedy the problem. But remember that rubbing your eyes will make your situation worse.

Blood Vessel Problems

Subconjunctival hemorrhage is a condition where the tiny blood vessels in the white part of your eyes are broken. This can happen due to straining, rubbing, lifting heavy objects, or sometimes for unexplainable reasons. If you have this condition, there is really nothing to worry about because it is usually harmless and common. Rest is actually what is needed to improve your condition. However, if you notice that your symptoms do not go away after 24 to 48 hours, then it would be a good idea to visit a physician or eye specialist.

Accident or Trauma

The most obvious cause of redness of the sclera of your eyes is trauma or accident. If you poked your eye with a pen or hit your head on the wall near your eyes, then pain, vision problems and redness will surely follow. Even if your eyes do not look bad, there might be problems like retinal detachment. So you need to have them checked immediately after an accident. However, if you had a very minor accident or you were just hit lightly, then you don't need to panic.

In order to avoid getting infections and other eye conditions, it is best that you wear protective glasses when going out, especially on a windy day or when working for a long time in front of a computer. To minimize the spreading of infection, you should always wash your hands as well. Cat is sick ...help?

For the past few days my cat has had a problem with her right eye. Discharge is comeing out and its all red and swollen. She has been haveing problems breathing she is usually all bouncy and playfull and all she does is sit and sleep ..she wont move or eat much ..I dont have alot of money and cant afford vet bills and I was wondering if this is anything bad or just really bad cat allergies.
Has anyones cat has symptoms similar to these before?

She has an infection and will need antibiotic to clear this. Keep her hydrated with plenty of water. Is she drinking on her own? It is more important she has water over food. I also understand about vet bills, just paid over four hundred on my dog Christmas eve day. He swallowed stuffing from a toy...Anyway.....your kitty is going to need to see a vet. At least call a 24 hour Emergency care vet and ask them what you can do. Dogs and cats can not always take the same medication, so make sure before giving your kitty anything... Call the vet, it is free to ask, ok?

Ideas for good cheap cat toys?

I am after ideas for a good but cheap cat toys. I have 3 cats, and they just love to play. I have a toy that they love to play with. It's a mouse attached to a string on a stick. But the problem is I'm not always able to play with them. So if anyone has any ideas of a cheap toy that they can play with by themselves, please post here. (They like toys that they have to chase or jump for, etc)

I'm not sure why you can't always play with them... physically incapable? If that's the case, my cat loves a laser pointer... you can sit there and the cat will chase the light around like a bug. Two other things come to mind, tho. Ribbon tied to the ends of a string work really well. And, WalMart sells these little plastic jumping jack-like toys that they love to bat around on the floor.

Balancing The Water In Ponds And Large Outdoor Fountains

If you have a pond, you will need to know how to keep the water clean. Small fountains have recirculating pumps which makes keeping the water clean much easier. Regardless of pond or fountain, it is useful to have a basic understanding of how to keep the water clean and balanced.

The term "biological balance" simply means establishing a healthy eco­logical balance between plants, fish, and other aquatic life in the pond. Various factors affect ponds, includ­ing the size and depth, the amount of sunlight or shade, water tempera­ture, water movement, pollutants in the water, and the kind and number of plants and fish. Depending on how these factors affect your pond, it may take anywhere from several weeks to several months to achieve this balance. Once the pond water is balanced, it will remain relatively clear provided you don't add fish, plants, or other pond life. Of course, if you do add any of these, you will need to take other measures to keep the water clear. Usually, you can do this just as you would with a swimming pool, by incorporating a mechanical or biological filter, using chemicals periodically, and routine cleaning.

How it Works

Think of your pond or outdoor fountain as a small, self-contained ecosystem. When you introduce aquatic plants, they draw nutrients (nitrates and phosphates) directly from the water and also the soil-if the plants are potted. These nutrients, combined with sunlight, cause the plants to grow and release oxygen into the water in a process known as photosynthesis. When fish are introduced, they consume the oxygen produced by the plants. To some measure, the fish rely on the plants as a source of food, and so keep excessive growth of the plants in check. In turn, the fish provide nutrients (carbon dioxide through breathing and nitrogen from fish wastes) to promote plant growth. Surface plants such as water lilies also benefit fish by providing shade during the hot summer months and controlling the water temperature. Plants give fish a place to hide from other fish, cats, raccoons, birds, and other predators. For their part, fish help control populations of plant-eating insects. Scavengers such as snails and tadpoles also help balance the pond by consuming excess fish food, algae, and organic debris. When the numbers of fish and plants in the pond are stabilized (not too many of one or the other), the pond is in biological balance. The reason balanced ponds are relatively clear is because the plants and fish in tandem help control the algae growth that can turn the water cloudy.

Controlling Algae When you first add water to your pond or Water Fountain, it will be crystal clear. After a few days, however, the water will turn murky, taking on a greenish tinge. This is caused by microscopic single-celled free-floating algae. Unless you take measures to control these creatures, you will end up with pea soup.

Starting the Process To achieve an initial balance in a new pond, follow these procedures:

Testing the Water When you first fill the pond with water, it may contain chemical and mineral pollutants that are toxic to fish and plants. The chemicals include chlorine, chlorine dioxide, chloramines, ammonia, and others present in tap water. Also included are various pollutants from pond-building materials, and poison­ous chemicals that may have been washed or blown into the water from outside sources. Free chlorine in tap water usually dissipates after the water has stood for a few days. Other chemicals, such as a combi­nation of chlorine and ammonia, take much longer to break down.  Before introducing plants or fish to the pond, test the water. After filling the pond, wait at least one week before testing. You can detect the presence of most toxic substances in water by testing for pH, ammonia, chloramines, nitrites, and water hardness. The pH is a measure of acidity or alkalinity. The scale ranges from 0 (highly acid) to 14 (highly alkaline), with 7 being neutral (indicating pure water). Healthy pond water ranges in pH from 6.5 to 8.5 Water-testing kits are available to test one or all of the conditions above. You can buy these kits at pet shops, garden suppliers, and pond dealers. Or you can order them from water-garden catalogs. The kit instructions usually tell you which water conditioners to use to correct the problem. Some pond dealers and pet shops also provide compre­hensive water-testing services, and can advise you on proper treatment.

Correcting Water Conditions A variety of water-conditioning treat­ments are available to balance the pH and remove toxic substances from ponds. But you should use them only if tests indicate that they are needed.  Test the water for pH and presence of chlorine, ammonia, and other toxic substances. Simple tests kits for monitoring water quality are available at pet shops and water garden suppliers or your favorite online dealer.  If necessary add a water conditioner to remove chlorine and other harmful chemicals in the water. Follow label directions. If algae is present, treat the water with algaecide. Remove leaves and other debris from the pond with a leaf skimmer.
There are some great fountain care products that will work in outdoor fountains and ponds that are safe for fish and wildlife. Some recommendations are Care Free Enzymes and Fountain Fresh. It will also help control algae if you keep the water moving in your pond with a pond aerator.

Leave the pump running all night it wont hurt it at all. I have a water fountain for my cats and they just love it. If you have a filter for your water fountain your water does not have to be change daily. Just keep on refilling it with water when it needs it. Then put a new filter in about every 3-4 weeks if you have one.
