Domestic Cat Aggressive Behavior

How to Deal With Dog's Aggression Problems
In dealing with dog’s aggression problems you have to understand that dogs are originally wild and it is natural for them to be aggressive. Aggressiveness is their defense to survive. It’s not surprising for dogs to demonstrate unacceptable behavior and harm people or other animals because that’s their nature.
While aggressiveness is a natural behavior of dogs, there are still things you can do as a dog owner to deal with dog’s aggression problems. Because dogs are domesticated now, you should learn the right techniques to house train your dog and teach him to live harmoniously with you and your family.
As a dog owner you have to recognize the causes of your dog’s aggression problems. Knowing the causes will allow you to do the proper treatment to correct the behavior problems of your dog.
One source of dog’s aggression problems is fear of strangers and unfamiliar situations. You will notice that your dog is uneasy with strangers (your visitors or the mailman) and other animals (other dogs and cats) and demonstrate certain behaviors like excessive barking, whining, cannot sit still and very uneasy around them.
Your dog is not comfortable with strangers because he is not given a chance to go out and see the world. He is not accustomed to see other people and animals. To remedy this you have to teach your dog to socialize. Socialization means exposing your dog to different environment, people, animals and other situations that will give him positive experiences making him more friendly and comfortable with strangers. The fun and positive experiences with other people and animals will solve your dog’s aggression problems.
Fear of strangers is just one source of your dog’s aggression problems and there are also other reasons for your dog’s unfavorable behavior. As a pet owner it is your duty to find out the source of your dog’s behavior problems to correct the problem as soon as possible.

Thinking of getting a 2nd cat...but the cat we have already is a little crazy - thoughts?
We have an 11mth old domestic short hair cat, he is male but was desexed/neutered at 4 mths. He can be very aggressive at times - biting, scratching, kicking with his back legs. We ignore this behaviour but he occasionally still does it. When he chooses to though, he is the sweetest little cat and will snuggle up with you.
We moved house a week ago and are thinking of getting him a buddy. At our old house there was a cat next door, and when our cat saw it (rarely, as he is an indoor cat) he would hiss at him.
How do you think he will react to another cat in the house? And if you think it's a good idea, should we get a male/female, older cat/kitten? We both work, and the cats will be alone for about 7 hrs a day during the week.
Eventually you'll have two cats that are sane & happier than they would be as solitary pets. You will need plenty of patience and fortitude. You must allow them to find their pecking order. Don't lavish the new one with attention/affection or you'll cause more problems. Try for one that's just a little younger than the one you have.
