Next on your list should be a second cushy cat bed to place under one of your beds or in a closet where your cat can recline and relax when it just wants to get away from it all and spend some time alone.
Keep the Fleas Away
Your cat will be happier and more friendly when it has its own soft places that it recognizes as its own territory. Also, your cats bed is an excellent place to sprinkle a little flea powder from time to time to keep it free of these anything pests. Still yet your cats bed is a great place to put its toys when you pick up your place. It will be glad to have them handy and they will be out of the way when he or she isn't playing with them.
A Carpeted Cat Tree for its Claws
The next time you look up in shock, to see your cat scratching its claws on a piece of your own furniture, you must bear in mind that it would rather have its own carpeted cat tree to use. Once again, it will grow to recognize its smell on it and prefer it over anything else because it is its own territory.

How do we keep our cats from scratching our furniture?
My wife and I recently moved into a new apartment and bought new furniture over the weekend. Is there some kind of concoction that I can make from home products to spray under and on the base of our new bed and sofa to keep our two cats from scratching them. We are afraid of discoloring the furniture. Our last apartment had a huge veranda on the third floor, so they were always out there scratching on the old wicker furniture. Any other ideas that have worked for you? Thanks
Well, all cats scratch to mark their territory. You should get a velour or plastic cover for your furniture. Cats absolutely cannot stand it because they can't drag their claws in it, and it is tough. Also, SoftPaws is a really good thing to buy. I personally love SSScat, which is a motion detector that you can place anywhere (like under your bed) and if the motion detector detects movement from your cat, it will release a spray of non toxic aerosol. Cats also do not like bitter apple or citrusy scents. So orange peels soaked in a bit of water or grinded up in a blender, sprayed on the couch will work wonders, and will not stain. Vinegar also works well, but the whole house will smell like a pickle and it can be unpleasant sometimes. You can buy Feliway Spray, which is a type of pheremone that is found in the cats face. Also, cutting or filing their nails will help tremendously, but do not ever declaw them.
