Cat Water Fountain Drinkwell
Cat won't drink from the drinkwell.?
I have three cats. None of them will drink standing water unless it is freshly poured. They like to drink from running faucets so I got them a drinkwell fountain. They'll drink from it more frequently than from a bowl of water but every single morning at 4am my cat wakes me up because he's thirsty. I'll get up and he bolts to the sink and rubs his face all over the faucet handles asking me to turn the sink on. I've tried to ignore him in the past. I figured if I don't give him faucet water, he'll be forced to drink from the drinkwell and eventually forget about the faucet. It doesn't work. He meows, knocks things off the desks and dressers, and worse of all, he'll slap the blinds against the window. He kept it up for a full hour last night! What do I do? He wants running water but not from the drinkwell. Oh, and I wash their water bowl every week.
You may try placing the drinkwell near the faucet. And make sure the food bowl is not anywhere near the water source. Most cats do not like to drink when they can smell their food.
What is your favorite brand of water fountain for your cat? Cat-it, Drinkwell etc.?

I have the Deluxe Fresh Flow Pet Mate one - http://www.petmate.com/Products/Deluxe-Fresh-Flow-Pet-Fountain__24850.aspx My cats love it but I have to dump it out about once a week because hair gets clogged in the filter. I have a Newf/Lab that sheds like crazy. Not a big deal but just something you need to keep in mind. So I think it'd be rather pointless to get a really large one thinking it'll last longer since if you have pets in your home you're going to end up dumping it out anyway to clean out the hair that will inevitably get in it. I have four cats using it and have to add water about every third day.
You also have to remember to shut it off if you're going to be away for a few days and your pet sitter hasn't been told to add water to the chamber. I didn't for a recent trip and thankfully he heard it making noise and just unplugged it. Had he not since the water had gotten the motor could have burned out.
